Change The Debate created climate change visibility within the political spectrum. Activists across the U.S. attended watch parties for the Democratic Debate, where we posed questions for candidates. We would later march to the Democratic Debate in Detroit, demanding presidential environmental action. (Summer 2019)
The Sunrise Movement held a town hall to create awareness of The Green New Deal. Many speakers and political figures told their climate stories, and several signed a co-sponsor agreement.
Jayden Allen and I directed art for the event and held brief interviews about climate change stories. We created flags, prints, banners, welcome station graphics and display pieces for the lobby and stage.
May 2019
The Sunrise Movement held their first ever Cultural Strategy + Art Activism Training in the D.C. are in May. I was one of 20 art activists / art leads who attended.
Together, we hammered out the vision for Sunrise’s visuals and message. As a youth led movement, we understand the importance of visual unity. This, of course, creates a more professional scope of the movement at large.
I participated in photography lessons, styling, hands on crafting and more.
I co-facilitated lessons at Chicago’s Green Explorer’s Club, a sustainability education non-profit. The explorers are ages 4-10, and are curious to learn tips to save the planet. We dove into animal facts, deforestation issues, wind alternatives, oil pollution, and other environmental topics. The classes were concluded with art exploration. The students were encouraged to create art projects that pertain to the topics.
